Valley Stream is a village in the southwestern section of Hempstead bordering Queens. Valley Stream borders Elmont, Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Franklin Square, Malverne, Hewlett, Rosedale, and Woodmere. Valley Stream is divided into two sections which are South Valley Stream and North Valley Stream. The first residents of Valley Stream were the Rockaway Indians until the Dutch purchased the land from the Indians in 1640. Robert Pagan changed the name of the area to Valley Stream in 1843 at which time he lobbied for a post office. William R. Gibson came to the area in 1922 and developed housing developments on 500 acres of land.
The area is served by different school districts and offers several elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. The area offers a wide array of services, businesses, and restaurants.
The main attraction is the Valley Stream Park offering playing fields, playground, nature trail, picnic tables, and more. The library also offers a variety of things for families and especially children to do including craft programs, summer reading clubs, Toddler Time, Alphabet Soup, and more.
